Regarding Radiohead's stunning recent decision (to allow fans to pay any amount they desire) regarding downloads of their new album, it's nice to see that some artists are just as idiotic as I always thought/assumed they were. Witness
this from that douche of a man, James Blunt:
James Blunt, the three million-selling singer songwriter told The Times that Radiohead’s approach could undermine the principle that artists should be rewarded for their work.
“I definitely think there is value in music,” he said. “I don’t think they should devalue it. I’ve got to pay a band and a producer and a mixer. I don’t know how I’d necessarily pay them if I sold my albums for 1p. I’d have to work it out, but maybe they know how this works in practice.”
Clearly the man doesn't understand the point of this little endeavor at all. Perhaps someone can explain it to him, using small words.
One of the members of Radiohead might manage it, but I'd rather not have them anywhere near master Blunt, so he can just read what they've
already said about it:
Why give people the option to pay whatever they want? It’s just interesting to make people pause for even a few seconds and think about what music is worth now. I thought it was an interesting thing to ask people to do and compare it to whatever else in their lives they value or don’t value.
As for the album, like
many other critics, I like it. Yes, it's a bit of a shame the mp3s aren't encoded at a higher bitrate, but I'll get the physical copy to rip in December anyway. It's no OK Computer (but hey what is), but it is a new Radiohead album, and as such, I'm pleased.
After nearly a week, I still like my new phone, brick though it may be. w00t ^_^
I need to figure out how to get Flash installed on it, though. Bah @ Adobe.
