It was rather amusing when I read what the author's had to say about fanfiction as well. I mean, I don't read a lot of what I'd consider 'mainstream books' i.e: books that get a lot of attention and are usually made into movies so it was... hard to kinda respect their opinions, however rude that sounds when I a) had never heard of them or b) have never read their books or c) didn't enjoy their books...

The thing that seriously made me crack up was when Stephenie Meyer said she read some and her characters were IN character. I have nothing against her personally, but I found her books extremely boring and her characters dull as fuck. No wonder people can easily write them >__>

Honestly, sometimes I think they're just scared fanfiction writer's will do a better job at writing THEIR characters. I think it just pisses them off that teenagers (or adults, aha) can actually have such an amazing imagination, and skills, all without an editor and a publicist. Just really my inner musings, though.

If Iain Banks or Michael Marshall Smith (two of my favourite authors) happened to have an opinion on it, I might take it into consideration. But really, if I had a published novel and people were making fanfiction off of it, I'd feel intrigued and happy that people were actually thinking about my book 'outside the book' and actually wrote about it.

It's like... boo hoo, get the fuck over it. At the end of the story, you get money and we get a kick out of what we write :D

fuck da police (╯・v・)╯︵ ┻━┻

Also, since I'm assuming most of the books were made into movies, here's one of my favourite quotes by one of my favourite author's.

“As long as a film stays unmade, the book is entirely yours, it belongs to the writer. As soon as you make it into a film, suddenly more people see it than have ever read the book.”
― Iain Banks

So don't preach to us about your copyrighted characters ~

Okay, rant over.
