I'm frequently amused (and amazed) at the turns conversations take when
janeg and I start on a seemingly innocent topic. This is reconstructed from a couple of nights ago.
"I was reading an article about tomato blight.... No, don't go there; it had nothing to do with Vernor Vinge".
"But if you go to a slow zone it gives you time to prepare for the blight."
"Are you ever going to play that song about the pack again?"
"Not sure. It's pretty esoteric.... Hey, we could form a tines-world filk band and call it Five Dog Night."
"Because 'Three' wouldn't be enough. They might have lost power of speech."
"This could work: 'Two can be as bad as one, it's the loneliest number since the number one'"
"Hardly has to change at all."
"..."
"So, what are we supposed to do with the tomatoes?"
(For those not familiar with "A Fire Upon the Deep" or "The Children of the Sky", you'll just have to take my word that this exchange almost makes sense.)
