Five people, who looked like shell-shocked survivors, walked into the back of the church. The small woman, replacing hymnals, smiled at them. “Can I help, y’all,” she drawled.

“We’re looking for the Reverend,” the lone woman of the group spoke up.

“Well,” she moved towards the group, “you found her, Pastor Sue Williams. What can I do fer ya?”

Again, the woman spoke, “We just came from the justice of the peace.”

Pastor Sue barked out a laugh, “Poor ol’ Harry. A little long on the tooth and short on the gray matter. Who’d he think was getting hitched?”

The sandy-blond man and the curly haired men raised their hands.

“Let me guess. That isn’t right.”

Five heads nodded at her.

“Well, since you,” she pointed at the gray haired man, “have to be poppa. And you two,” her finger wiggled between the two dark haired men, “have to be brothers. That leaves the two with the stars in their eyes. Why don’t we go to my office and talk a bit. Any of you Methodists?”

“My sister is,” the woman spoke again.

“Close enough,” Pastor Sue laughed again. “Come on, folks, y’all can survive this. It’s only a wedding.”

Megan smirked at Larry laying on the bed. His arms were under his head and his was staring at the ceiling as if it was the stars. Crawling into bed, she laid her head on his chest and smiled as his arms wrapped around her.

“What you thinking about?”

“Dimensions.”

“You’re dimension theory?”

“No, human dimensions. I’ve been thinking about family and friends. About how friends should be the ones that let you down, but family is most commonly the guilt parties in our greatest pain. We’ve both painfully hurt and been hurt by our fathers. We’ve both felt that we were ultimately disappointed by our mothers’ lack of espousal. Yet, here we are embraced by others that provide us with a sense of well-being that we would be loath to dismiss. Then there is us.”

“Us?”

“Us,” Larry rolled over to face Megan. “Here you are this gorgeous, independent, strong woman, and you’ve chosen me to spend your life with me.”

Megan ran her fingers across his jaw and into his hair, “I’m grateful that you’re allowing me to spend my life, my whole life, with you, because you’ve added so many dimensions to my life.”

Larry kissed her.

Megan was standing in front of the mirror buttoning her white fitted coat; her hair was down in gentle curls down her back.

Alan smiled at her, “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you,” Megan turned and smiled at him. “Everything ready?”

“Yeah,” Alan hugged her, “You’re parents are here.”

Megan nodded, “I know, my sister told me. I’m so sorry, I was just afraid they wouldn’t come.”

“As a parent, I knew they would. So you ready to do this?”

“Definitely,” Megan took his arm and allowed him to lead her to the back of the cabin.

They paused at the double doors looking out at the assembled guests. Alan glanced at Megan, but her eyes were only on Larry. As the strains of Pachelbel’s Canon started from the sound system Charlie and Colby set up, Alan pushed open the doors and lead them to where Larry was waiting. When they made their way to his side, Alan gently placed Megan’s hand into Larry’s and kissed her cheek before he moved to side with Charlie and Don next to Larry.

Pastor Sue smiled at the couple, “We are here tonight to celebrate the joining together of Megan Reeves and Larry Fleinhardt.”

But, I find myself sounding like Larry some days.

Melinda Reeves, Megan’s sister, stood next to her father watching the group still sitting outside watching the meteor shower. The cold and damp had forced the Reeves and the two other CalSci professors in to sit by the fire, but Megan, Larry, and their FBI family were still sitting on sleeping bags sipping Champagne.

“You know, she’s happy, right,” Melinda asked her father.

Richard Reeves nodded, “Yes. I’m glad she found her happiness. I still don’t understand her or her lifestyle. She risks her life daily and married a odd little man.”

“Daddy, she loves Larry. And, once you get to know him, he’s a pretty amazing guy. A little odd, but not bad.”

“I doubt I’ll get that chance.”

Melinda sighed and wrapped her arms around her father’s, “If you walked out there right now and started talking to her, really talking, she’d let you in. She wants you in her life, Daddy. She just wants you to accept her life, too.”

Richard watched as the people outside laughing at something. He sighed, “I just don’t think she needs me in her life.” With that he kissed his daughter and went to find his wife to leave the cabin.
