Oct 31, 2006 00:15

Please, please, please read the warnings below! Something happened and this went terribly off into the land of angst. I'm so sorry.

Title: GastClassicBeauties.com
Pairing/Characters: Larry/Megan, Charlie
Rating: T+
Challenge: #39 Classic
Summary: Larry looks for release on line.
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: Nope, are you seeing a pattern for this series?
Notes/Warnings: Many years ago, there was a website called this and it did cause a bit of confusion. This was especially funny since the store was located in the heart of Amish Country.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Numb3rs. Heck, I don’t even understand most of it!
But, I find myself sounding like Larry some days.

“Larry, what the hell is this,” a very angry, pregnant Megan Fleinhardt (something that could make grown men have nightmares) thrust a stack of print-outs towards her husband.

Larry’s eyes widened, “I’m not sure, nebula.”

“Cut the crap,” Megan again thrust the papers towards him. “What is this… this filth I found on our home printer?”

“Oh, dear, did I forget them?”

“Yes. Why are you looking at these sites,” Megan’s voice dropped to a dangerously low and sad register.

Larry shook his head and crossed to her, “With the pregnancy and looking for a house, well, I just thought this might be better than burdening you.”

Charlie blanched, what the hell were they talking about?

Megan rested her forehead against her husbands, “Larry, you should have talked to me. I would have told you we can work something out, always. We’ll sell the Accura first, then we can get something bigger. But there is no way in hell, we selling the Ford.”

Charlie snatched the papers from Megan. He found websites for classic car dealers, “Oh, thank god.”

Megan and Larry looked at him oddly.

“Trust me, I thought for a moment there I had been scarred for life.”

Title: For Always?
Pairing/Characters: Larry, Alan, Charlie
Rating: T+
Challenge: #40 Loss
Summary: Some things just come out of the clear blue sky.
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: Nope, are you seeing a pattern for this series?
Notes/Warnings: Character Death. I am so sorry. I don’t know how this happened, but it did and I’m sorry. Apparently I went to the dark place where the angst lives and brought back a little. So, so, so, sorry.

“What is that,” Alan looked up from the washer.

“That,” Larry held up a new cell phone, “is my wife’s idea. If you’ll excuse me…”

As Larry step out of the garage Alan smiled at Charlie, “When did Larry get a cell phone?”

“Apparently, a few minutes after Megan had a hormone induced crying jag because she hadn’t been able to reach him. Can you believe that ring tone?”

“Shania Twain’s Forever and For Always? I think it’s very appropriate.”

Charlie shook his head, “I think it is more than that. Some morning Larry hums the chorus nonstop, the same mornings that he’s got an even goofier grin.”

“Ah, well, yes, every couple have those certain songs…,” Alan trailed off as a slightly green Larry returned to the garage. “Larry, what’s the matter?”

“Don’s team went on a raid this morning and found themselves in an ambush.” Larry moved towards Charlie and placed his hand on his shoulders, “Don’s alright, but Colby’s in surgery. He’ll be okay, Charlie.”

Charlie’s knees sagged as his father moved to help support him, “We need get to the hospital.”

“Yes,” Larry looked completely distraught, “but there is more. I’m afraid David didn’t make it.”

Title: Eternal Spring
Pairing/Characters: Everyone, but really David in a strange way.
Rating: T+
Challenge: #41 Spring
Summary: Sending him to his rest.
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: Nope, are you seeing a pattern for this series?
Notes/Warnings: GAH! This made me cry. Again, so very sorry. Since his religion hasn’t been address, I jump to a major conclusion. I may have broken both legs in this jump. Although the song is in public domain now, it was written by the amazing Fanny Crosby around 1900.

It was an impossibly beautiful spring day. Much too beautiful to be standing in a cemetery surrounded by not the new growth of spring but that artificially forced growth of florists’ creations. The bright colors of the thousand roses and the fresh green grass contrasted sharply against the dark, subdued clothing of the mourners and the dark, polished mahogany of the casket.

David’s two families flanked the sides of the casket. On the left, his biological and spiritual family, silently supporting his mother, father and sister. On the right, his work and secular family, silently supporting Don, Megan and Colby. On the left, tears flowed down open faces. On the right, tears hid behind stoic faces.

The began to speak, “Our beloved son, brother and friend, we send you to the glory that is the Lord’s Eternal Spring. In the words of Fanny J. Crosby,
‘The winds have ceased their moaning,
The winter storms have passed,
The lovely face of Nature
Is wreathed in smiles at last.
The pearly streams no longer
In icy chains are bound:
The mountains glow with verdure,
The hills with joy resound.’
David, may you rest in the warmth of the Lord.”

The tears fell.

Title: Whispers of Butterfly Wings
Pairing/Characters: Larry/Megan
Rating: T+
Challenge: #42 Words
Summary: He would find the words and the comfort
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: Nope, are you seeing a pattern for this series?
Notes/Warnings: Still with the tears. I’m a huge fan of the woman, Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, mentioned in this and wish I could give her more than 200 words, but alas it is just a small piece of fiction. Still, whatever your beliefs are, if you have ever lost a loved one or have someone facing a long illness or are facing the same, I highly recommend any of her books, especially On Death and Dying.

But, I find myself sounding like Larry some days.

That night Megan laid with her head on Larry’s chest. They had been uncharacteristically silent for the better part of an hour.

Finally, Megan sighed, “Talk to me. I want to hear your voice right now. I want to listen to your beautiful words,” there were tears in her voice.

Larry thought for a moment. He really had no words. Not for this, not for something of this magnitude. However, if his wife wanted words, words he would find.

“One of the greatest authorities on death was Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. Her work established most of the accepted wisdom on death and dying, including the commonly known ‘Five Psychological Stages of Dying,’ denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. However, her greatest contribution was possibly the evidence of an afterlife and the transformation of the soul, which she embraced through years of research. Her epitaph reads that she ‘graduated to the dance in the galaxies’ and her tombstone is decorated with butterflies, which she associated with the transition from life to death and death to life.”

Tears wetted Larry’s t-shirt, “Do you think we could decorate the nursery in butterflies?”

“I think that would be highly appropriate,” Larry gathered her even closer.
