Mt. Rainier, September 7 2007 on the Sourdough Ridge walking toward Dege Peak

Had the good fortune of excellent weather, and decided for the hike around Mt Rainier with a lunch at the top of Dege Peak.   The drive south from Seattle was fine, and then I hit the National Park which was terrific on account of virtually no cars and few people, and most excellent views.  I met one man, a Scot, on the trail who I think wanted me to hike with him later -- he was hiking down and I up;  he was talkative.  Our paths didn't cross.

The environs and mountains were awesome, it was simply awesome

I opted for the Sunrise Area trails as it was the quickest from Seattle, and the weather patterns lead me to believe that the east side of the mountain would be better than Paradise on the west.  I think this was a good call as I could see clouds on the other side of the range the entire day.  No clouds on the east side.
