Ryan got out of that hospital fast. I'd almost feel cheated for the hurt/comfort/recovery if I didn't think, like Kirsten, that he isn't still suffering and struggling on many levels. From the glimpses you've given, that seems to be the case, and even a well-versed, chameleon, stoic Ryan isn't going to be able to camouflage himself this time. His guardians should be shaken and scared enough to be attuned and vigilant after so close a call.
By juxtaposing the various perspectives, using a measured pace, inserting silences and time for introspection and evaluation, and describing the physical aspects and emotional responses effectively, you've written a very engaging chapter and transitioned from one phase to a very uncertain one to follow. There's that sense of relief that a critical hurdle has been cleared, but still the foreboding that comes from just squeaking buy, being afraid, being out of depth, being out of control, and desperately wanting to help someone who is hurting and confused, but feeling so powerless.
Thanks for the update!

Thanks Beach. I hope I can convey all the things you mentioned. It's going to be hard to write the next chapter without straying too close to other stories that have been written.

Each story has a unique premise, a different author bringing a unique perspective and stamp to it, and no two can be the same. Besides, what's not to love about h/c and all it explores?
