Concealed Handgun License

For the last few months I've been entertaining the thought of getting a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) when I turn 21. To that effect, I've been reading these two great resources:

• Packing.org-concealed carry database which features Texas laws and summaries relevant to owning a weapon, and
• Texas Penal Code, specifically Title 2, Chapter 9:

I've been thinking about getting one as well for quite some time now. I have become more increasingly aware that there are many disturbed people out there, and given my current physique I do not feel I would be able to defend myself if threatened.

Anyone who can legally possess a firearm, and is traveling, can carry it inside a motor vehicle. The firearm can be loaded and must be concealed. If it is in view it is a violation of the law. Law beocmes effective 9/1/05.

Asside from the typo "beocmes", doesn't this essentially say you can have a concealed weapon in your car even without a concealed handgun license?

What are the odds of you running into one of them? I'm not sure how many dangerous situations you're planning on putting yourself in, but I bet it's not as many as you think. Most situations can be more safely defused without a gun than with.

.....huh. And here I've grown up with "whatever you do, DON'T resist arrest" in the back of my head...

Yeah, well, what the law says and what the judge decides are two different things. Odds are that if a police officer manhandles you before you get a chance to say anything and you fight back, you will be charged with resisting arrest, etc., etc.
