How I Imagine People

Aug 10, 2004 00:08

I think I have a tendency to fill in the gaps of what I know about my friends' lives in strange and fantastic ways. You know how when you know someone, you sort of get an idea of what their everyday life must be like? Sort of an over-romanticised vision of how they are when they're at home or you're not around... I think the classic example is the popular kid at highschool, who I imagined must have had a 24hr party going on at their house or something.
Anyway, here are some of examples of how I imagine some people. Maybe admitting it is the first step to healing.

Jono Gerber
Jono spends four hours a day bashing away on his piano trying to re-define composition and performance for the 21st century. His hair gets more and more manic as the session goes on and he sometimes wears a lab coat. He also writes manic manifestos in large notebooks with bound leather covers, that include copious references to John Cage, Philip Glass and Stereolab. He has no intention of the public ever seeing these however (at least while he is alive).

Jasper Lee
Jasper is usually working in a tall glass skyscraper in town. He gets called 'Mr. Lee'. He looks good in a suit. Once he was asked to join a special covert action team to stop a group of Russian hackers, but could tell no one about it. At home, he listens to his collection of 14,323,219 post-rock mp3s on random shuffle, or re-arranges his CD racks into alphabetical order.

Kerryn Wilson
When not at uni or work, Kerryn continually dances around her house to music from Perth while eating weird yet cute lollies that she got at a mysterious import shop. From 8-9:30pm each night she sits and talks to her cat.

Glenn Santry
Glenn simply wakes up, sits in his studio, and waits for cool bands to walk in and record with him. They give him lots of money and then leave.

Hmmm. I do know that in reality you are all real people, and probably have just as normal a home life as me. It's not right to reduce people to stereotypes. Okay, I gotta go buy three more brown cardigans!!
