'Twas the Night Before Christmas - Healthcare Version

Dec 24, 2013 10:28

'Twas the night before Christmas and I in my house
Was worried about healthcare and so was my spouse.
The Lysol was sprayed in the air with much care
In hopes that no germs were found hiding there.

My hubby and I were both lying in bed,
While visions of illnesses danced in my head.
And I in my nightgown and with my c-pap
Was deathly afraid that I’d catch some crap.

When out in the driveway amidst all the snow
I spotted a white van tied with a bow.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the window and froze off my ash.

The lights from the van did outshine our tree
And I asked my hubby, “Is that for me?”
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a driver named S.C. bringing good cheer.

My husband had ordered, for me, lot of meds,
Some blue and some green and a whole bunch of reds.
More rapid than eagles the packages they came
As we unloaded the bunch, we called them by name.

Now Darvon! Now Delsym! Now Paxil and Videx!
On Calan! On Caltrate! On Depakote and Bimex!
To the door in the front; to the top of the stairs,
To the tables and counters and all of the chairs.

And then in a twinkling, I thought I felt sick
So I looked for a pill that would do just the trick.
I sneezed and I coughed and was turning around
I found the big orange one and popped it right down.

My mouth became wrinkled! My eyes they were glary!
My cheeks were like roses, my lips like a cherry!
My nose was all runny, filled up with snot.
My head was quite heavy; my forehead was hot.

I spoke not a word but got off of my feet.
I covered my body and turned up the heat.
And laying my head down, I tried hard to sleep
By closing my eyes and counting the sheep.

I slept through the night and the next day did whistle
So I sat down and wrote. The result? This epistle.
I feel fine; I am healthy which I say with delight,
“Happy Healthcare for all!” Let’s keep up the fight!
