nice to have so many damn replies!!!! thanks forrie, marta, and that other guy in boulder who thinks he is soooooo cool, but is not cool enough to be named here!
yes, i want to be ani choyings houseboy!!!!
in a serious sense, i've been spending the whole day thinking very seriously about the things that she needs at the school that i could quickly round up here, i.e., computers and software. i spoke to my friend rachel's mom today and apparently an exgirlfriend of mine from highschool works for microsoft in columbus and is in charge of donating computers to charities... a little eerie...
choying told me last night that the school has come so far from nothing, but there is serious growth to be made, from her view. i was looking at the website this morning trying to get a handle on what they really need. as steve said, i can obviously teach english and music, but i can also teach people to use computers. they want people who have experience w/ the mentally retarded, and i worked with mentally retarded children and adults for a year. i'm also a construction worker.
i'm basically feeling fired up about something, which i now realize hasn't really happened before. i have my interests and career goals blah blah blah, but i don't really give a shit, that's part of the reason i'm kind of in a torpor right now.
but now i have something that i'm ready to work on night and day and see it done, because it needs done, and i'm in the right place at the right time. apparently if she needs a proper ethernet setup and someone to get her computer lab off the ground, it's because no one else is doing it.
so yeah, lots of thinking on my end. i'm in atlanta right now, but i've already been making calls and have appointments to talk to people at churches next week. gonna start stirring it up. tibbetts told me he would help in anyway he could. i'm trying to think clearly about what i can actually transport over there, but i'm sure i can scrounge up 4-5 laptops and an ethernet hub etc. in this very wealthy country of ours.
oh, and ballard... yes... i want that signed copy. i don't care about you... just the book.
just kidding, i think your alright... sorta...
book!
on a very serious note, monsieur boyd, do you think Integral has any laptops, 3-4 years old, ethernet ready laying around?
My friend Will's parents had a 4 year old desktop that they were going to give to me for free. I'm not sure what ever happened to it but I could look into it for you.
sweet. i'm waiting to get an answer from the school right now as to whether desktops or laptops are prefered. i'm honestly not sure if it's realistic to try and get desktops over there. thanks for thinking of it though.
