I'm so confused! I'm accustomed to Bush using terrorism as his rationale (read: excuse) for everything. Terrorists this, we must pass this law! Terrorist that, we must pass that law! Terrorists there, we must start this war! But now Kerry is doing it too.
A perfectly reasonable ban on a limited number of automatic assault weapons is about to expire in the USA, and due entirely to political reasons, there has been no push from Congress or the President to extend the Clinton era law. Kerry accuses Bush of failing to pursue a renewed ban. His words: "Today George Bush made the job of terrorists easier and made the job of America's law enforcement officers harder and that's just plain wrong."
While there may be a good bit of truth to both those assertions, more to the latter seems obvious, I hate to see Kerry pull out the big T word (shhh, don't say it around the kids) and use it to justify his criticism of Bush. It's a step towards scaring the American public into voting for him rather than Bush, and man, if there's one thing I hate about Bush, his administration, and his campaign, it's that he employs fear to manipulate Americans.
Don't go down that road Kerry! Assault weapons are terrible human creations and belong in the hands of no one. A law that bans a few of them is a damn good thing. Have the balls to say that. Don't fall back on terrorism.
