Friends and Acquaintances Change
Three observations.
My good friend Nick, who had left for Hawaii before I headed to Graz and returned while I was there, just went back to Hawaii. I arrived in Norman the night before his departure, just barely catching him, and able to enjoy and evening with his girlfriend and her daughter.
Yes, her daughter. Nick is hooked up with a gal who has a baby girl. Now, it's not Nick's daughter, but it still blows my mind! My friends are almost to the point where they have kids! It's crazy!!
And then my brother is getting married... !!
I was staying at a friend's house in Norman, Eric's. Last night we were talking about a script he is writing, Star Trek XI. Eric has been a film and video studies major and is exceptionally passionate about movies. I found the script intriguing but doubted Eric's ability to pull a cast together for it. The text called for the return of Brent Spiner (Data) and Patrick Stewart (Cpt. Picard). Both have said they will not do another film.
Criticizing Eric for trying to incorporate them into the script, I said half seriously, half in jest, meaning it but by no means mean or rude about it, that Eric "was full of himself." Eric is full of himself, and he doesn't take criticism well. Half an hour later he asked me to leave the house. I left this morning, losing my crash place in Norman. I'm now in Edmond and will head back Monday to continue preparing for my biology test and graduation. Wonder if I lost a friend over some friendly but taken too painfully criticism...
Met up with an acquaintance I had befriended just before my departure to Graz 10 months ago, another of the many cool people I've met and have wanted to become better friends with. We talked about a mutual (ex)friend of ours, actually, I brought it up, not knowing anything about the recent goings about. Turns out this acquaintance had not too long ago broken up with her boyfriend of seven years and that our mutual friend, who had given a shoulder for the tears of a rough time, was now dating her man. This effectively destroyed the friendship, and words from the one end were not kind. Funny though that I'm now attracted to the mutual friend, another girl I had always wanted to get to know a little better but never approached about even the most innocent of friendships.
