i remember being in your position a year back. i think that for my team in particular, we felt it really strongly. we believed in it, that we could've really won the gold. we gave our souls, we sacrificed our all, towards that goal.

although we didn't win the gold, we still walked out as heroes. every single one of us. because deep in our hearts, we had gave our all to the cause. that day after the final, we walked out of kallang with our heads held high knowing that we'd won the battle that mattered most.

my senior said this to me, & i'll say it to you all again, that at the end of it all, the medal that you may win will merely end up as a couple of lines on your rj cca record. but only you & your team-mates will understand how much meaning lies beneath those words. 1 year on, i flip through the photos, i read through my diary, & those memories still come back to me.

our lives are such that when something has passed, it will never re-appear. treasure these moments while you still can.

at the end of the day, when you go down into the water after you finish your race, only you, & you alone, will know how much effort you put into it. row every race as if it were your last. so that whatever the end result may be, you'll step up on shore with your head held high. knowing that you gave your all, not only for yourself, not for raffles, but for all your teammates that've gone through the last 2 years with you.

all your seniors will be with you, if not in person, at least in spirit.
