The NOLA Tree Volunteers -- How Much Can We REALLY Do in Just a Week?

May 30, 2010 06:49

Volunteers who travel to New Orleans often wonder, "how much can I really help?'

The answer: A LOT

But it's really up to the volunteer. How hard are YOU willing to work? How much are you really willing to give of yourself the week you're in the Crescent City

This past spring, a group of volunteers from Mount Saint Dominic Academy spent a week working with LowerNine.org, the organization we'll be volunteering with this summer. Led by the amazing and inspiring Lauren Smith, who coordinated their trip, here's what they -- sixteen students and three faculty members -- accomplished in just one week:

• Drywalled 6 ½ rooms in Miss Carletta's house
• Drywalled, taped and mudded 5 rooms in Mr. Wally's house
• Tiled 2 bathrooms in Miss Wanda's house
• Stained and painted Miss Mary's porch
• Prepared Miss Mary's house for move-in
• Weeded and planted tomatoes at the North Villere farm
• Stained doors at All Souls Episcopal Church
• Cleared Mr. Murphy's front lawn
• Prepared Mr. Roy's house for drywall
• Planted 515 grasses in Big Branch Marsh National Park
• Built a chicken coup for Market Umbrella

Volunteers from The NOLA Tree: How much are YOU willing to put forth? How much can WE get done?

Let's match this incredible effort. Let's rise to the occasion. Let's be the change we want to see in the world.

Please re-post or share this with other volunteers.
