Cypress-Fairbanks -- More Texas Adventures

Nov 01, 2009 07:21

After a brief stop at home -- laundry, water plants, set the dvr -- it was back to Texas for another set of school visits.  This time, I visited Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.  Located just outside (or inside, depending on your definition of urban sprawl) of Houston, it's one of the largest school districts in the country -- over 100,000 kids!  Like they say, everything is bigger in Texas.

The Cy-Fair (that's what we locals call the area) librarians rocked.  I visited nine schools in five days.  It was a whirlwind, but they made it happen.  I'm hoping to see most of them again in a few short months at TLA in San Antonio (yep, another Texas trip is in the works).

We forgot to take a photo at the school.  So we had to take one in the restaurant parking lot.  It was a challenge not having an IHOP or Chili's or Burger King sign in the background.

Prior to my visit, all the librarians book talked many of my titles and took the kids to my website.  Of course, everyone wanted to know about my "Teach-Learn" tattoo, so I had to incorporate it into my presentation.

The kids were great.  As usual, we took lots of pics, and because we have to be inappropriate, we usually made funny faces because the teachers didn't want us to!
