Stuff and things

Well it's been an eventful few days.

Yesterday I went to Conflagration 2006, glasgow university gaming society's annual convention. I got involved in a role-playing game based on celebrity reality TV but with ghosts and weird stuff happening (and this campaign was written before "Lost" came out!) I played Jeremy, a disgraced Tory MP who had done jail-time for taking bribes and was using the program to try and restart his political career, which was really stressful because it involved a lot of getting shouted at by the other characters. The others were: Melanie, a weathergirl bimbo; Claire, a middle-aged daytime TV presenter; Rupert, a camp TV mystic (a cross between Uri Gellar and Graham Norton); and Izzy, an aging member of a long-dead heavy metal band who wasn't quite with it and still had the occasional acid flashbacks.

We got a lot of funny looks from people playing more traditional, dice-rolling RPGs elsewhere in the room, especially when Rupert stormed off - throwing chairs over - after being voted off the island. It was very intense, but it was great fun!

Today was my first day in my new job as a street fundraiser for Gift. I'll trying to raise funds for AICR (the association for international cancer research) for a few days, then I'll be collecting signatures for Oxfam's "I'm in" campaign. Haven't done anything but training yet, but it's been fun so far. Everybody on the team is a great laugh and it's a good workplace atmosphere. The main boss at the office is a crazy Irish guy called Paul. The world needs more crazy Irish guys. It feels weird to be working full-time, I suddenly feel as though I really don't have enough free time at all. It's all good experience though.

My CV is starting to look very colourful.
