Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Gregory Goyle and Su Li
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter or anything/anyone associated with it
Rating: PG for language
Author’s Notes: Gregory and Su are partial owner’s in what was once Ollivander’s wand shop. They’re people of strong opinions and detestable habits. Let’s see how they work it out, shall we? Beta’d by the wonderful jtav. As always constructive criticism and thoughts on characterization are loved

Kismet

“How did you and your husband meet?” Gregory asked as he continued stocking shelves.

“We met in school,” Su replied as she handed him another wand.

“When?”

“Fifth year. I liked to tease him about his socks and he made fun of my braces.”

“And that’s how you two met?”

“Are you surprised?”

“Dunno, thought it’d involve talk over arithmancy.”

“We took arithmancy, but I don’t believe we ever spoke of the class when we talked to each other.”

“Think you two meeting was fate?”

“I suppose fate is a good enough explanation for why two people were seated together.”

Loquacious

“It’s like they had a child for every year they were married,” Gregory said in astonishment as Mrs. Hermione Weasley left his establishment for the fifth year in a row with another child and their new wand.

“It’s a guarantee of 100 Galleons a year,” Su said as she deposited the money into the register. “I just wish she wouldn’t spend so much time telling you that all is forgiven. It takes half an hour to get her to leave.”

“Yeah, but that’s why we charge her extra, isn’t it?”

“Well, our time is an extremely precious asset.”

Gregory laughed.

Modicum

“Mr. Goyle, please. Do you honestly believe that because you have some small talent you are deserving of half a partnership in a business that I have been planning for the last four years?” Su asked indignantly.

“Miss Li, is it? My talents are rarer than a heliopath on a cold winter’s day; so, if you want it for your business then, I’m going to want a piece of the business,” Goyle explained as he took a swig from his tankard of ale.

Su Li stared at him. He was calm, collected and all too sure of his talents. “Thirty-seven percent.”

Nefarious

“Think we’re bad people?” Gregory asked in their first business year.

“For what?” Su asked as she counted out the day’s earnings.

“Makin’ people pay for somethin’ they need.”

“Are grocers bad?”

“Depends on who we’re talkin’ about.”

Su sighed. “Grocers provide food and in return ask for money. We’re the same as them. Besides we give five percent of our earnings to charity.”

“We do what?” Taking a few galleons off a wand’s price was one thing, but to just give money away seemed like sacrilege to Goyle.

“Which we write off on our taxes.”

“Ah, s’pose that’s alright then.”

Dear Vincent

It’s been a few years now, and I just thought I’d let you know that I’m finally getting’ married. Orla Quirke’s her name. I met her through Su Li. Orla’s a good woman, wears glasses and is a bit of a book worm, but she likes the outdoors. I like that in a woman.

She’s smart though. I don’t feel dumb around her, but I wonder how much longer I can keep up, you know? S’pose things will work themselves out though, right? Hope they do anyways.

Wish you were here mate. See you soon.”

Your friend,

Gregory
