Everyone Else is Doing It...
Life is busy, mostly with wedding planning. I still have photos to put up on Flickr (and I need to label the ones there already), but I haven't found the time. Memes take less time, though.

phil_g, because I'm not very creative. The first place I really set up a user account with a long-term username was Slashdot, where I creatively called myself Phil Gregory. I did the same on kuro5hin, but the next place where I needed to pick a username was IRC, which doesn't allow spaces. So I shortened it to phil_g, which I then began using everywhere. I tend to use asciiphil a little more these days, but I still have a lot of accounts all over the place named phil_g.
2. My name is _____ because ______.
Phillip, because my parents wanted to pick a name that wasn't very common at the time. Phil, because when I went to work at summer camp when I was 15 I decided to try introducing myself as "Phil" and decided I liked it better that way.
3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
"phil!" because of IRC. Back when I was living at home, we had a permanent Internet connection, but it was dialup on a second phone line at the house. I left my computer on all the time, so I left myself on IRC all the time, too. But because of the dialup, the connection would periodically (sometimes repeatedly) drop and have to be reestablished. When that happened, I would disconnect and then reconnect to IRC. jeff took to saying "phil!" every time I reconnected, and I gradually added the exclamation point to my name. I'm not just "Phil"; I'm "Phil!". Also, I'm not creative and named my LJ after myself.
4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
"Friends" because I didn't know that I could customize it. (And now that I know, it's going to stay "Friends" because I'm lazy.)
5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
An indifferent smiley. I started using that image as the favicon on my website, mostly because I liked the look of it. When I started making accounts in places where I could have userpics, I used a larger version of my favicon just to be consistent. At some point I'll get around to making more icons in the same style (which will take a little work because I lost the original file and don't remember precisely what font and settings I used).
