update on my nephew

thank you all for your thoughts/prayers.

on the day of ther surgery, everything went better than we could have expected. the doctor came up and told us that they were able to get out all the major cysts, as well as most of the hardware they had left in there before (such as shunts, bubbles, etc), and they even got part of the original tumor! they radiation had failed in keeping more cysts from forming, but it DID succeed in calcifying the original tumor (killing it). because it was hard, they were able to remove part of it. as far as i know, this wasn't even an option before the surgery.

since he was doing well, i left the next day. two days later, just as he was about to be released, he stopped talking and stopped recognizing people. we don't know if he wasn't recognizing people, because he wasn't talking. he might have just been ignoring people. the nurses assured his mom and dad that everything was ok, and all they had to do was level out things such as his sodium levels (and other things). they said it wasn't anything major.

within a week he was truly released from the hospital. as of right now, he no longer has to go in for daily checkups, but instead is doing weekly.

with exception of a scary downtime there, the overall surgery went a LOT better than we could have expected.

again, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!
