It is veryvery quiet at work today, with only three people out the front here. We have to take in in turns to have lunch, so no Alina lunchbreak for me :(
I have a papercut UNDER MY THUMB. How does this happen, you ask? It is the book karma I have piling up on my because I was stripping plastic covers off books for FOUR HOURS this morning. And I have ONLY DONE HALF. My brain is OOZING out my ears, and I am planning to SHELVE because it requires more thinking than FOUR HOURS OF DESTROYING BOOKS.
I weep. And slice myself open under my fingernails.
But because Boss and Grumpy and Shouty are not here today, I am playing music at my desk. Huzzah. Elephant Elephant.
And perhaps there will be wine after work. Actually, there will SURELY be wine after work, because I have some at home, but I have been invited to a book launch straight after work down at COCA. It's a kids book called Quaky Cat by Diana Noonan and half of all the money it makes goes to earthquake things. Plus every year one and two child in Chch gets a copy. Plus she gave her whole advance ($2500) to Chch Woman's Refuge, which is pretty awesome. The illustrator is Gavin Bishop and he's donating all his moneys too (also he worked 13 hour days over three weeks to get it illustrated in time, THAT is dedication).
Maybe it is unrealistic to expect wine at a children's book launch, but there should definitely be nibbles. There was wine at the last book launch I went to, although I was too young to appreciate it and spent the time running around the cave (all book launches should be held in caves, I think) pretending to be a hobbit.
Hungry hungry hungry.
