I don't know if I've ever truly expressed my completely adoration of David Levithan on my journal before. He's an amazing author, he writes a lot about teen sexuality and most of his characters are gay. He writes about things of huge importance, like life and love and choices and hurt and healing and music. I love the way he uses words, sentences, paragraphs. It's total ♥♥♥♥♥.

The one I'm reading now, Wide Awake, is set in the near future. And hey, Ness, it's not one of the futures that sends humanity into a black spiral of oppression and tyranny :D In this, America has just elected its first gay Jewish president, although only by a narrow margin, so the opposition is demanding a recount and is doing all it can to fuck it up, so all the supporters from both sides are heading to Kansas to protest and its electric and scary and wonderful and there are all these cracks growing in the boys and girls relationships and WHEE!

I love, too, how he talks about all the things that have happened in the world since now (well, since 9/11) which all sound perfectly realistic about the way things might have gone (and might still go, recession recession war doom doom). Although it does talk about how America hasn't had a black president yet, and I Go HA, YES WE DID! YES WE DID! Not that I'm American, but, you know. We did. Ha.

And Bob from work got be Boy Meets Boy so SWEET I have two David Levithan books to read now. This makes me happy. Especially since one of the first lines in Wide Awake is 'the personal is political' and the whole themes of equality and everything ties in so nicely with all the feminism/equality things we as an LFoD have been reading recently.

*loves*

Also I stood in a dark doorway and grinned at Jen as she ran down the hall, and she got such a fright that she screamed and fell over and lay on the floor laughing for a very long time. It was awesome.

Also also hobbit! Who Killed Amanda Palmer the book goes on presale TODAY! *flails in excitement*

amanda fucking palmer, book rants, books dammit, books
