I don't think it's possible for me to write at all well if I'm not writing for someone... telling a story to someone, say, or trying to make a point.
I've noticed that when I just -write-, I turn out the most awful boring pap... it works a lot better if I have someone or the other in mind when I write, and write as if I'm arguing with them or telling them something.
