Found from samidha's journal.

after some requests, I'm unlocking this and encouraging people to let others know as well, feel free to link or copy and paste to your own journal.....

regarding the hurricane mess...if you are planning on danating for disaster relief, I implore you, please donate to anyone but the red cross or united way.

I was an employee of red cross in the fund raising division for two years. Much of your money gets funneled back in to management's pockets. Unless you have clearly delinitated in several different ways that you want your money to be used in "XX" diseaster, it gets funneled into a general fund and is not used to help anyone.

If you must just absolutely donate to them for some reason, please mark very clearly on your check, the envelope, an an accompanying letter that the money is to be used for 2005 HURRICANE RELIEF ONLY.
Only by noting this IN ALL THREE WAYS will any of your money go to help the hurricane victimes, and even then, they will only get a small percentage of it.

Please don't keep the management of Red cross in thier big fancy cars, houses, and private planes. (yes, you read that right...in all of the big city red crosses primary management has thier cars/insurance paid for my red cross, and we are talking cadillacs...thier homes, and in the case of the guy at red cross years ago his personal private PLANE were all payed out of the red crosses funds.) Send your money to one of these places instead. (list ganked from lady_morgaine

you KNOW it must have much suckage for me to be saying send money to christian church organizations, but I saw so much corruption while working at Red Cross, and it wasn't just the Indianapolis chapter, it's all of thier upper management.

Edit adding this link as well.

Also, this is a very good bit on why the Red Cross does NOT NOT NOT deserve your funds for relief work. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/richard-walden/the-red-cross-coming-home_b_7653.html
