We went for food tasting today @ Mandarin

Nov 10, 2005 23:20

As BIL's wedding drew near, he asked us all for a meet the parents session with future SIL's parents. We were scheduled for a food tasting session at Mandarin @ 7:30pm. The restaurant would arrange so that we'll have the same dishes and the same timing as the dishes are served.

At 6:20pm I was still wondering why AA haven't turned up to fetch me yet when I received a call from him informing me that he was held up with a meeting. *Sigh* So, I had to call mum and ask her to fetch Keith from CC so that we can make it in time. Luckily, J was at home and they managed to fetch him and gave him a shower before we arrived. We stole a quick look at the famous "miracle bathtub" that mum and dad got before leaving for the hotel.

AA predicted that there would be a crowd going towards the city but felt that we should take the express way anyway. Luckily there wasn't many cars and we arrived just shortly after our PILs and BIL. We had a bit of confusion getting to the venue as we had to first get to the lobby and walked a distance to another lobby before we can get to the venue. Luckily we knew where the carpark is (located in some back corner of the hotel), otherwise we could have arrived at the front of the hotel without realising that there wasn't any way in!

Anyway, the future in- laws came in and we were introduced. We then started dinner. AA and I spent most of the time making small talk among the parents and maintaining Jess and Keith's relatively "good" state. They were very well behaved and engaged the future in- laws with their antics and smiles. The overall atmosphere was friendly and gentle banter and everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. BIL and J must have heaved a sigh of relieve seeing that their parents got along fabulously.

Keith was again attracted to the peanuts and AA and I had to grab them from him before he started to binge on them again. Jess on the other hand showed her displeasure of being fed things she dislikes by spitting them out. Luckily J, who was sitting next to me, passed me some tissues so I can clear up Jess's mess. The dishes served were:

1) Roast Pig Combination
This one was ok. The egg was not too nice but MIL liked it, so we might keep it after all.

2) Sharks Fin Soup
All the parents felt that the soup was too thin and there wasn't much fins. We asked for more fins.

3) Roast Chicken
This one was nicely done. The roasting was just right but I felt the crackers a little too soggy.

4) Prawns, scallops and macadamian nuts in Golden nest
The macadamian nuts were nice to eat and the seafood was of course my favourite. Both the children love the golden nest! Crunchy and delicious.

5) Steamed Fish
Fish was fresh and the taste just right. In fact, Jess was fighting me for my slab of fish and nearly gave a riot when I couldn't serve her fast enough!

6) Broccoli and mushrooms with Abalone
Broccoli was not overdone and the abalone nicely tender and fresh. Jess also loved the abalone.

7) Lotus leaf steamed Rice
This one was delicious! Even after we were all heavy from the food before, it was a nice blend of nuts, mushroom, prawns and rice!

8) Yam Paste with Pumpkin and Ginko nuts
What can I say? Our favourite dessert. The children finished off our bowls for us.

And Keith had 2 bowls of white rice! I was amazed to see that he had a wonderful appetite for food. In fact, he was in a good mood that day and kept prancing around the place. Jess was even more vocal and she was saying "Goo.. Good!" all the way :)

Looks like we'll have a nice time during BIL's wedding :D
