Gong Gong's birthday was around the corner and all of us were discussing where and when to have the celebration. I was ok to celebrate it at the exact day (17th Nov) but Sis was worried that some of us might have to work on that day and Gong Gong might not be free too. So we decided to have it in the weekend and planned it on the 12th Dec, Sunday. We were actually thinking of celebrating it on the weekend after the 17th but mah mah was adamant that it should be celebrated earlier than the actual day. (I'm not sure why exactly but anyway it's her call)

Mah Mah wanted to go to Soup Restaurant (Suntec) at first, but something came up that spolit our plans. We hastily changed the location, and it was lucky that we got a good recommendationfrom our classmate at Pilates Class.

Sis was the most efficient and quickly called and made a booking at the restaurant. AA and I fetched mum and dad and we all arrived at the restaurant promptly before the reservation time. As we settled in and waited for GGL to arrive, we looked at the menu and tried to find dishes that everyone can enjoy. After a while, dad and mum got inpatient and called GGL to check where he was. Apparently, GGL and SIL have arrived early but went off to pick some things before they come over. *faints*

We then decided to order while we wait. And on cue, just as the food arrives, GGL and SIL came just in time :)

The dishes were excellent. We had:

1) Cold Crab 冻蟹
This one was the Signature Dish (招牌菜). The crabs were smaller, but sweet and had no "stinky" taste associated with less fresh crabs. The meat was succulent and the roe not overly done and sweet. Yeow don't take crabs, so we were saying that maybe he should have $20 off his bill for not partaking one of the most expensive dish :P

2) Oyster Omelette 蚝蛋
Sis, J and Yeow liked this most. They polished it off and was fondly reminiscing the taste months later :P

3) Sweet and Sour Pork 咕噜肉
Another one of yeow's favourite. My taste tells me it was just right without being too sweet. The tangly sourish taste did not overpower and the mix was just right to leave you longing for more.

4) Yam Paste 竽泥
As all nice yam paste goes, it wasn't overly sweet. The taste of the yam lingered and the ginko nuts were not hard. The paste was a little grainy and not so smooth, which affected the taste a little, but over all it was still good.

5) Crystal paos (水晶包)
There were 2 versions to these little wrappers. The saltish ones and the sweet ones- saltish ones are packed with a vegeatble mixture much like what we have in popiah, but the sweet ones have yam, lotus paste and red bean paste. Both versions are nice, though the packaging was a little hard on some sides, the filling made up for it.

6) Steamed Promfret 潮洲蒸白鲳
This one lost some of it's authenticity cos Sis cannot tahan any mushrooms. However, the fish soup that accompanied it was so sweet and nice that all the children took a lot of it :P

7) Fried Noodles (Extra long) 长寿面
This was first to arrive because the children were hungry after waiting so long for everyone to arrive. Luckily it was so good that even Keith took 3 bowls of it :)

*Note: Cannot remember the other dishes already (these are the better tasting ones), and AA threw my receipt away :'(

It was a nice meal that wasn't too expensive. Funny thing was, the restaurant does not take credit cards so I had to pay with NETS.

The funniest thing was, as GGL looked the oldest, the waitress approached him to pay for the bill although I called for it. GGL sent the bill in the right direction straight away. The waitress was also a little confused and kept talking to me in Teochew. And it took me some time before I realise that she was saying that they do not accept VISA nor Mastercards (no CCs please!)

We left the restaurant happy, contemplating when to come back again :P

family dinner, gong gong
