It's that time of the year again.
Dunno what AA would be planning this year but I'm sure it would be as interesting as last year.
Anyway, it was a good day for Keith yesterday.
His teacher from BSS and the resident psychologist came down to our house to set up his work areas so that he can do tasks at home. We all were a little worried initially as he had to transfer the setting from school to home, but Keith surprised us all by dealing with his tasks the same efficient way he did at school.
[piccys of set-up at home]
Both Teacher G and the psy A was ready and moved the furnitures for us from one room to the other while AA tried to pacify the hungry children (who haven't had dinner yet) AA told me later that Keith was hammering him before he managed to remember that we had some Danish butter cookies stored away somewhere and gave him a bottle of milk to top it off.
After that, Keith was all ready for his tasks. When Teacher G showed him his transition objects, he was at first a little confused as he had no idea where the set up was. But after Teacher G directed him to the correct place, he settled in and started on his tasks almost immediately. I noticed that he does not like to choose from left to right and tend to grab the easier tasks first. However, he was rather resilient and complied when we wanted him to complete all the tasks on the shelving.
Teacher G was all excited telling us about how he could do about 6 tasks on his own. Both Teacher G and psy A was happy to see Keith latch on the tasks easily. In fact, he was so excited doing the tasks that he wanted to do more. And when I tried to do the tasks with him myself, he has a little resistance, but could also do the tasks ok.
Teacher G and psy A suggested that we do the tasks with him at least one round each day. This is so that he can generalise the skills to apply. They also mentioned that we might want to change the layout once in a while to introduce some changes to his routine. But we can gladly say that we can start off his structured teaching at home.
All thanks to the 2 dedicated ladies who came by :)
