Title: The Reason 7/?
Rating: PG
Summary: Billy sits Dom down...
Feedback: Bit addicted... have pity ^^

“Billy?” The Scot whipped around, and found Dom standing at the end of the bar. He was meek, pale and seemed to be shrinking inside his skin. He had disappeared a few weeks ago and, despite past behavior, Billy had been worried sick. Then, out of the blue, a note had been waiting at front desk with only a name, a place and a time.

“Dom…” He hugged him hard. He felt frail, barely there beneath the layers of shabby clothes. He held him by the arms. “Please, come back to the university. Get help. Please.”

“I can’t. He’s gone Billy.”

“I know Dom.” Sighed Billy, as they both sat on a barstool. “I didn’t say it would bring him home. But look what it cost you Dom. Beat it, even if it’s just to spite it. So you can say to it ‘you took him but you can’t have me.’ And if not, how about for me? I worry about you Dom.” He smiled sadly.

“I can’t, without him. I don’t have he strength. He took it home with him.” There was a long pause.

“Say Elijah’s name Dom.”

“What?”

“Say Elijah’s name.”

“Why?”

“Because I know you don’t want to.”

“Well then I wont.” He finished obstinately. Billy grumped.

“Come on Dom I’m trying, which is frankly more then you deserve, give me something here.”

“I am trying. You’re right, I don’t deserve anyone’s time of day but I’m trying to put this back together and all I have to do it are friends that I’ve worn down so much they’ve lost half their stick, and my superglue’s long gone cause I thought I didn’t need him.”

“Christ Dom that’s so corny. But I see your point.” Billy was only playing hard boiled. He had a very deep soft spot for Dom, like an older brother, because he’s always acted older then his age. He knew that inside, under layers of shit and waste and rubbish, he was still Dom; cute little funny Dom who could turn into serious and comforting just like that.

“Go after him. Chase him, tell him you need him, more then anything, like I know you do. And we’ll be here when you bring him back. He wont have given up on you yet Dom, he just needs to know you lied.”

“I can’t Billy… it’s like, I’m so tired, but even when I sleep it wont go away. It was the monotony and the tiredness that made me do what I did. But it doesn’t help. I took him for granted Billy, and if I can’t forgive myself how can I ask him to?”

“Because he loves you so much more then you love yourself. That’s how love goes. The people who love us have to sit and listen to us talk about how useless or ugly or pathetic we are while they try to tell us we’re perfect. Ok, so Lij may not be in quit that frame of mind, but he knows what’s inside you and he knows you have the strength to get it back. And like I said, you need him.”

Dom was silent for a few minutes. His mind when swiftly from why to how to don’t to do and back again, until finally he looked at Billy and muttered quietly, “I don’t have any money.” But there was a wad on the table before he could finish speaking.

“Don’t say no.” Interrupted Billy when Dom’s mouth opened argumentatively. “Me and Orli scraped it up and if you don’ take it I’ll set fire to it right now.” He growled, taking his lighter from his pocket. Dom snatched it, smiling widely but it only exaggerated the sad, deep lines of malnutrition and addiction. Billy faked a smile back, praying he wouldn’t see Dom again for a long time, and when he did he’d be tanned, full, and holding Elijah’s hand.

“I’m going to go now, before I change my mind.” Dom cut short Billy’s optimistic vision for the future. “Thank you.” He didn’t need long, articulate words, but he said it as slowly as if it had twenty syllables rather then two. As if he really meant it. Then he was gone, and Billy finished his pint with a lighter heart and much lighter wallet.
