today we are in a monsoon! so much rain! getting from car to shop had me soaked through with a raincoat on
so when i opened the awe-maniac and saw today was about puddles i had a fit of giggles
today is one of those days where i need a pair of wellington boots then i can splash, play and create without fear of the gross wet sock syndrome!
so i am to write a memory of puddles....
once upon a time there were two little girls. they loved to be outside, more than anything and would often get in heaps of trouble because they skinned their knees, tore their dresses and came back covered in mud. one such day in october there was hard, warm, wet rain. it flooded streams and rivers and it made these two little girls very very happy. the creek that ran through the yard was bursting, the tall tall grasses had became islands and two little girls in rain boots, coat and dresses where out up to their knees in water. they took turns jumping over the expanding creek, they stomped through the newly created marsh, they leapt from one grass island to the next. it was a day much like today, only instead of cold and damp it was one of those tropical storms that brings rain and warm temperatures. i miss those days... that feeling of being so wet you'd be warmer if you were naked, that knowing that your mom was going to be mad at your exuberance and lack of care with your clothes and health. that look she will give you under her frustration that delights in your explorations and wants to stop being an adult and join you in the muck.
the realization that although we are both all grown up, there is a deep knowing that should i ask... this girl would once again at age 35 join me in the rain and stomp through all the puddles and leap over the creek. she might not let her 2 year old son join us though as she might feel the need to keep him dry and safe and healthy :D
