welcome winter, with your rain and hail this morning
with your randomly balmy temperature that will soon drop back to the near freezing range
thank you to your brown and limp foliage and trees naked without leaves
to the possibility of snow
to icicles and scarves
to frosty mornings and scrapping car windows
with your wet glove smell and the need for big thick socks
welcome to staring out of windows and longing to run free amongst flowers
to darkness and excuses to sleep just 10 more minutes
to candles and holiday lights
biting winds and puffs of clouds when we exhale
for the possibility of baking to warm up the house
pale blue skies and white winter sun
thank you for reminding me that summer contains deep blues and yellows a sharp contrast to you
thank you for the fallow season, for the rest, for the decay, for the drawing in
this helps remind us of inner strength and perseverance and makes us appreciate the spring even more.
