Snow=First SGA Fic

OK, so it's been basically in the 50's all week, beautiful weather. I mean even the snow from before Christams was starting to melt.... So anyway I got out of work last night to below freezing weather and the promise of snow in the air. It just reeked of snow. And lo and behold arounf midnight it started comin' down. By the time I get up around 11am everywhere. It's hard to say how much there is because it's not the good "Lets go making snowmen and have a snowball fight" kinda snow. It's the "drifty, hard, turns to ice on contact" kinda snow. Not fun at all. It sticks to everything. Making it hard to shovel and clear off cars. So basically it stinks

So that over and done with as I was shoveling with my brother loosing all feeling in the extremties below my waist I had an idea for a story. It's Shepwier-ish.... I guess it's more friendship then anything, but it's my first story and I still haven't figured out how to write their dynamics yet so....

Hope you enjoy. Leave me a comment whether you enjoy it or not. I really want to improve my writing and any input from others would be much appreciated.

It was the last thing John Sheppard had expected to find on Atlantis. Sitting in his office, feet resting on the many reports on his desk, he stared out the bank of windows to the right of his desk. Snow. Lots of Snow.

In the almost two years they had spent in the city he had come to expect the weather to be calm, sunny, and a constant temperature of between 60-65 degrees. With the exception of the hurricane last year and the occasional rain shower to water the Anthosians crops, the weather was always sunny and beautiful.

But there was the proof right outside his window that the planet Atlantis was on still held many surprises for them. While it was still only flurrying out is New England instincts told him there would be a good 8-10 inches on the ground before it was over. He was startled by a voice coming over by his door.

“See you’ve seen the newest development.” Elizabeth Weir said from the door way, a small playing on her lips at the shock on John’s face. “Rodney and a few other scientists believe we’ll only be getting a couple of inches at most…” She trailed off when see saw shaking his head.

“Naw, this will definitely give us a good 10 inches at most” he said.

“Oh really? And do you have a magic ball that predicts the weather?”

“No. Let’s just call it intuition”. He turned to face her to see him giving him The Look, small smile on her face, left eye brow quirked up. “I’m from New England” he stated as if it explained everything. She simply laughed at this statement.

“And that makes you an expert? Just because you’re from New England? Rodney’s from Canada, if anyone should have an “intuition” about snow wouldn’t it be him?”

“Have you ever to New England?” She shook her head no to his question as she sat down in the chair opposite his desk. “Well, the difference between New England and Canada is that they know what to expect weather wise, while we New Englanders never know. Perfect example, a few years back, it was just after New Years, when I was back home on leave for a week they had been having a stretch of 50 degree weather. Beautiful weather, don’t even need a jacket in that kinda weather”. She raised her eyebrows at this but let him continue. “The best day was two days before I left, it hit maybe 55 degrees. I went out to a bar with a few buddies around dinner time, we walk out of the bar around mid night and it was below freezing. I woke up that next morning to almost a foot of snow on the ground. So you see, I expect the unexpected, expect the worse and can tell you by looking at that sky” He pointed to it out the window for effect “that there will be at least eight inches of snow on the ground by morning”. He lend back into his chair, a smirk playing on his lips.

Suddenly Elizabeth stood up and made her way to the door. John called after making her turn around to face him again.

“Where’re you going?”

“To dig out the warmest clothing I can find. If your “intuition” is right then I fully plan on playing hooky in the morning to play in the snow.” A smirked graced her lips as her eyes challenged him.

“Well just be careful…. You never know what kinda people can be lurking around corners, snowballs at the ready…..” He trailed off, as his eye’s returned her challenge. She merely smirked wider and turned to find the girls, they had a lot of planning to do.
