Some thoughts on movies...

You all know why I saw this one I'm sure...it had Robin Sachs in it. Plus elizabuffy recced it. ;^)

It was...interesting. I can't really say I liked it, but I didn't want to stop watching it either. There were some really fascinating elements and really powerful images in it: the angel wings being my favorite of these.

As EB said, the movie was working on about 4 different levels. I'm quite sure some of them went whooshing right over my head.

One thing I wonder: so, did the ark/boat float?

*L* and lord I hate my brain. Robin's character was named "Cup of Tea." Now, I could never write it because I don't know how I'd capture the character, but I've a hankering to see a tiny Giles/Cup of Tea ficlet based solely on the line "Cup of Tea, Cup of Tea, Almost got a Shag, Cup of Tea." Sorry, it made me giggle

M*A*S*H

I'm REALLY glad you all encouraged me to see it. I really, really enjoyed this. It was weird though...I didn't realize the characters would all have the same names, so that threw me. I loved the funeral the best I think. That and the guy who carried around olives for his martini. The little play with switching numbers on the stolen jeep was pretty good too.

Wow, was Margaret ever a bitch. She deserved all that she got, in my opinion. Frank was worse even than in the show...this Frank was more evil and intelligent. He deserved the straight jacket, too.

Gee whiz on the football game! Who needs the enemy? Just let us take ourselves out, thank you very much!

The one kinda bad thing though: I ended up renting the original VHS from 1979 (it was older than me! and its case looked like it). It was in pretty good condition as far as not having fuzz and whatnot, but after 26 years, the tape had really deteriated in color. Most of the scenes on the tape were dark brown and orange and some were almost too dark to see. The DVD was remastered. I would have had to buy it though, and I didn't yet know if I liked the movie.

I also decided that I'll be unlikely to ever patronise Blockbuster again. They've been kinda evil to me in some ways, and some of their employees seriously make fence posts look like Mensa members, but the one thing I've always hated was how expensive they are. Hollywood Video has the same pricing schedule though, so I kept going to Blockbuster.

I was looking for the movie M*A*S*H though (I had to explain to an employee named "Crystal Starr" what an asterisk was) and not a single blockbuster in town owned it. Miss Starr, however, suggested I try Hastings.

I didn't even know Hastings rents videos! But they do, and instead of paying $4.33 (with tax) at Blockbuster and keeping it for 7 days, I got it for $1.07 (with tax) and get to keep it for 5 days. I don't think the two days are worth that much extra, do you? Plus Hastings has a WAY larger selection.

I'm tempted to call Crystal's manager and tell him how helpful she was! What I won't tell him is that she managed to lose Blockbuster a customer forever...

Ugh. I hate being this tired. But I still am. WTF? Anyway, I'm going to bed now. Star Wars tomorrow, I guess. Then I'll write some fic...I know I owe several.

Oh. And with the help of housemates, I made a cake tonight. Dark chocolate cake and strawberries. Yum!
