Summary: Her baby does sleep.
In the end, her baby does sleep. Not a lot, but he does sleep and she always manages to get at least a couple hours a night and it keeps her going.
Cooper’s still living with her, sleeping in the bedroom next door to hers, so that he can get up in the middle of the night to feed Michael a bottle of breast milk when she’s so tired that all she can do is cry. He’s a gorgeous baby, all wide blue eyes and dark brown curls, and her favourite thing about him is that trademark baby smell. She could hold him against her chest and smell the back of neck forever.
It’s hard, and most of the time she feels like she’s doing everything completely wrong, but Michael’s forgiving and every so often he’ll turn his lips up in what she swears is a smile and it reassures her. She feels like a bundle of nerves because his neck is too wobbly, his limbs are too small, he’s entirely too breakable, but she loves him. She loves him so much that it hurts to let other people hold him, because she can’t stand to be apart from him for those few seconds while he’s cradled in someone else’s arms.
And even though she loves him, she worries every day; worries that she’ll be a horrible mother, that he’ll grow up to resent her, that she’ll somehow damage this gorgeous little boy. So she holds him close and she watches for those smiles that Addison insists don’t exist, because they mean that she’s finally doing something right.
