These firsts may take longer than expected, for I am trying to do something different with them - either voice wise or structure wise, or try and work on imagery based pieces. But it isn't working, lol, and I am starting again. Still experimenting is fun!
A question: When you write - do you write what you want to happen, then make it more...poetic, or ...what? Thoughts?
For
quirkies prompt: First time Dean Forester noticed Rory
Title: First Sight
Rating: PG13
Pairing: Dean/Rory (Gilmore Girls)
Summary: First Time Dean notices Rory.
NB I wanted to amalgamate this into a Rory/Dean future fic,
where Dean goes back to college and gets assigned a tutor - which is Rory, in spare time from her PHD. Not that he's struggling, but it's been a while and he needs tips on studying 'cause he needs to remember... (and associated subtexts). I just had the bunny for it and I want to do it but...something about it isn't working. HMM. Anyway not that you need to know that for this PILOT based ficlet but ...there you have it! A ridiculous notion? There should be sexing in it too, which may be holding me up.
Anyway - onto the ficlet.
Dean gives his first glance around at possible friends, possible enemies and those in-between. A brunette fills the space of uncertainty and takes Dean’s gaze away from the jostling soccer players and their lost ball. She’s really pretty with her quiet smile and unusual chat, and she’s the only one Dean watches walk through the door, into his new life.
Dean notices her all the time after that. She roves into the edges of his vision, and skews his view in her direction. She takes up his entire focus with the way she twists her hair between her fingers when she’s concentrating, and with the small smile she gives herself when she’s reading, as if the secret’s too good to share.
She sits and reads in the same place every day after school, in the shade of a tree and now Dean’s curious gaze too. Madame Bovary has her attention so fully that not even the thwack of a misplaced ball or the flooding in of authority figures and a girlfriend’s tears, can draw her attention away.
Dean has never seen anyone read so intently and she seems most at home with her head in a book, in some world Dean’s desperate to learn more about.
She’s reading Moby Dick the following week and the only trouble with her levels of concentration is that Dean isn’t sure when to interrupt her. He sees her after school, surrounded by books on the floor, and takes his chance.
Her smile beams when he admits he’s noticed her, and the fix of her eyes on his own feels better than he thought possible.

Probably Gossip Girl ficlet tomorrow, then SPN ones and Petra ones nearer the weekend. We'll see. Still time to request a FIRST if you want one. (pairing/character and first - comment here's fine).
Hope back to work was okay for those that had it! How go the resolutions?
