Last night during our New Year's Eve time at church, we had a segment designated for testimonies about something life-changing that had happened during the year.
One of my friends got up to give her testimony. She talked about how turning 50 made her think a lot as well as some other things that happened during the year. Then she said that being told you have a life-threatening disease is also life-changing.
She'd been sick fairly often, and was sick and tired of being sick. During our pastor's series on prayer she was convicted of the need to allow the Lord to bring to her attention things that were coming between herself and the Lord, and one of the things was dealing with forgiveness toward others.
God gave her some specific things to do, and as she walked in obedience, He told her that she had cancer. He sent her to have a test done, and the test for cancer was positive.
The Lord continued to direct her in what to do about all of this, and she obeyed. Later, He told her to go have the test again, and the cancer was gone. She smiled and told us that she now has a paper that says she is "Normal."
This was a real challenge to me in my spiritual walk, and I have been pondering it all day. Very few people--and I mean VERY few--knew that she was going through anything at all, let alone fighting a life-threatening disease. She obeyed--and I know some of the things she was doing, though I didn't know why at the time--and yet she never spoke of the why other than that God had directed her. Quite frankly, I'm not there, and I can even make a few guesses as to why I'm not.
IMHO, this lady is anything but "normal." Or maybe that is what Normal Christians should look like.
