Because they do. They expect all of us to want to take over the world and probe them or something. And most of all, because we're not human.

Aliens don't exist where I'm from, but, logically speaking, I would assume that there would be a similar level of adherence to cultural norms in alien cultures as there are in human ones.

While universal conquest may be a core value in an alien culture, that does not mean that all members of that culture value it equally, or at all.
