So i went to watch the Tony's at Hope's house. She lives far....
The awards were pretty good. I'm a little dissapointed actually. I wanted The Color Purple to win more awards. I mean, LaChanze was awesome, but the show was really specatcular. Really. Also, the song they performed from it "Hell No"... It was ok.. not the best choice i feel. I would have done something that showcased more of the cast. The opener or the "African Homeland" piece. The finale was a nice choice.. i love that song.
I"m pretty excited about The Drowsy Chaperone winning a bunch.. I think it should have won best Musical... (i may be a bit biased.. being Canadian and all). But really? Jersey Boys? really? I wouldn't think that would win.. mostly beacuse it would only really mean something to the people who know who Frank Valli and the Four Seasons are... It just doens't seem as accessible as the rest. The awards were relatively spread out musical wise though... Plays were a different story with History Boys sweeping.
Still i was very pleased to see Sutton Foster on the front page of the star today. Not only does it give me hope that theatre and the arts is actually news, but also, i freakin' LOVE Sutton Foster. She's just so great.I mean 3 nominations and 1 win in 5 years... was it 5 or 4? anyway, it doesn't matter that's still VERY impressive. And i also love that she's engaged to the guy who played Jimmy in Millie (not the original, the replacement Jimmy). Still.. WOW. What a nice story.
It was a nice night with Hope. Her mommy joined us for part of it. That was nice too. Mostly it was nice to snuggle with her after not seeing her for a while.. and now she's off to Shakerspeare-a-gogo-land. Le sigh...
mmk. i'm off to have a movie night with Schwebs and my new couch.
