Busy busy

Well, ok, I know my last post was a bit of a gyp since I didn't talk about Anastasia's party, or visiting Hiram or anything like that - but really, it was a wonderful time.
As for the following weekend, two of my good friends lost close family members on practically the same day, so neither of them could be here. I send my condolences, but I pretty much fled down to Mark's house for the weekend in response. Which was nice, actually, though commuting up in august will suck...I'm afraid I may be pushing my aug 18th limit on this thesis. Anyway, he's got a great place and is doing wonderfully for himself. I usually can't help but be a little jealous, but I've been much better about that, but it does fill me with melancholy as I can only imagine that I would be as well off too if I had made better decisions in my life. Also, he managed to get me (and by 'me' I mean 'us') drunk, which was pretty funny, but I must have had a bit more rum than I thought I did 'cause I woke up with what was probably a mild hangover, heh. It was good for me to go since I probably wouldn't have gotten much in the way of work done the way I was feeling.
As for this past weekend, it was Origins time! Ran into a lot of people I didn't expect - Paul & David Jacobs (if you read this I'm terribly sorry, but I had to work almost all of sunday and couldn't leave for a go lesson), Grayden, Rori, Jeffy & half the guys from gaming, several others... and William Hung. Yeah, the terrible guy from American Idol - that last one was pretty surreal, actually. Got to talk with some of the designers of Warmachine, who were quite cool; did a closed-door test of a new card (not ccg) game, saw the pre-print of the new Battletech book (and was complimented on my jacket), played in (and lost) the first adult Apples-to-Apples tournament, was taught to play the L5R CCG(finally) and built a pretty solid deck, learned several new tabletop, miniature & CCGs and...and despite doing all that, I spent most of the convention working at the tabletop HQ to pay for my badge & hotel. I don't think I'd like to work that much next time, but it wasn't terrible, though kinda sad watching everyone else hanging out with friends and having fun, like working at an amusement park. Oh, and after playing my first game of Diplomacy ever in the Diplomacy tournament I won (and a certain someone should be amused by this) "Best Turkey" - and yes, I laughed pretty hard when that finally struck me.
Anyway, it was a bit more expensive (unsurprisingly) than I had planned for, but not by more than I can handle, which is good. But now I'm tired and a little behind, but I think if I can knuckle down this week I can make a lot of progress. And speaking of progress
