Most of you know the old oak table Katy had bought some years ago, for about $30. For a long time it was our Beirut table. The finish was pretty bad and a year or more of drunken beer pong did not help.
Last week I finally got around to fixing it. Katy borrowed a random orbit sander from a coworker and I bought sanding disks, steel wool, stain, polyurethane, brushes and a drop cloth. The total was under $30, so we were able to get a sweet table for a total under $60!

I dissambled the table, covered the balcony in a drop cloth and sanded the finish off the top and the leaves.
After machine sanding with three different grits (80, 150 and 220) I hand sanded with very fine (220) to remove the swirls from the random orbit sander. Next was the coat of stain:
I then applied three coats of satin polyurethane, sanding between coats with steel wool. Finally was re-assembling:
