Whether or not Sephiroth's phantom footsteps had been a figment of his drug-induced hallucinations, the hall echoed behind the general with distant footsteps that did indeed exist outside of his head, perhaps inside as well. The sounds were accompanied by a jingle of metal, keys or maybe a chain. Someone was approaching ( ... )

There it was, a single, hollow noise amongst this twisted screaming mass of a world. He heard those damned footsteps even through the chaotic hellhole that had never been in any sort of training he had ever designed or been apart of ( ... )

Perhaps he had been destined for it, perhaps this was some inevitability he hadn't bothered to prepare for [not that there was any preparation against this]. Maybe the Great Forest Spirits' work was only temporary ( ... )

Dick had locked Bruce in his room and grabbed his supply of hypo sprays he'd gotten from Bones as soon as he heard the screams of fear out in the halls. That son of a bitch, that bastard had let the gas out through the confines of the compound. Fear gas was dangerous even when isolated to one victim, but in closed quarters with unstable subjects--that could be downright fatal.

Re-breather shoved over and into his mouth the vigilante ran down the hall of his building looking for the first victims he could find. His eyes opened wide behind his blank lenses as he spotted one he knew..

" Ashi..its Dick..I'm going to help you..its not real ashi.." Dick was cautious as he approached the ancient archer. Ashitaka could spring on him at any moment thinking he was one of his delusions.

Ashitaka's teeth were bared in frustration and pain, though he was completely oblivious it was all imagined. "D...Dick..." he grunted "Don't... " he saw his won arm twitching with the demon's energy "I don't know what it'll do" he was gripping at the trembling muscle, his shortened sleeves today would reveal the discolored skin he saw [though to Dick the limb would look perfectly healthy]

Ashitaka began to shuffle away, opposite the direction Dick was coming. "Stay...back."

A harsh, dry shout could be heard further down the corridors. It was nothing really, but the air conditioning vents brushed by the young man, causing him to flinch, as if he'd been touched, grabbed at, he bolted. The fuck was that? Duo pondered this, stopping his sprint as his vision blurred, quickly gaining in intensity as nearly everything he could see in his field of vision just started to pop out at him, at the sight of something green and glowing, he jumped back.

Paranoid and delusional, he fell against the wall, finding it difficult to regain his balance and coordination now that he was down. The shadows of the room started to be more prominent, reaching out to him. He cried out in alarm, shielding himself from the threat.

Zechs came from the opposite hallway, a slight pause to his steps as he thought he heard something hissing. He strained his ears but before he could make out what the noise was or where it was coming from exactly the OZ pilot was interrupted by the appearance of the aggrieved boy from the other day. He recognized him rather instantly, and a second after that he noticed the odd behavior.

Frowning, he stepped closer to where the boy had stumbled and held out a placating hand. "What's wrong?"

Duo whipped a hand protectively in front of his face and dove to the side, away from the OZ colonel. "G-Get away from me!" he shouted, he was trembling uncontrollably, he tried to gain a foothold to move forward, stumbling and tripping on his own feet. He turned to look at his pursuer, recognizing him more as an enemy, and his own weakness he was vulnerable.

Zechs frowned. He understood from their first meeting that the boy obviously had issues with him (although Zechs couldn't imagine why, except perhaps because he was from the same world...and distrusted OZ? it was possible) but this was a little ridiculous. This didn't seem to be "I hate you; fuck off"--this appeared more like "OMG it's a monster; get the fuck away from me!" type reaction. Something was obviously wrong.

Slightly irritated, more curious and severely cautious of his surroundings, the OZ operative stepped forward in a quick motion. Sadly, the rapid movement would likely further agitate his 'prey' but considering the other's nature it was a more sure-fire why of cornering/capturing him. Zechs's movements were not faulty and this readily helped his cause as he reached out to grab the boy's arm.

"Calm down. What's going on? What's wrong?"

Something about a person like Duo, you corner him? He had this tendancy to fight back. He quaked again, flinching at the movement, his eyes wide with horror, but the second he was touched, he lashed out a fist, trying to push back up to his feet and strike out again.

Zechs reeled backwards and his eyes widened slightly as he felt the rush of air glide past his face from Duo's wild punch. He had no doubt that the punch was aimed at him on purpose. However, the exact reasoning was still unclear.

A flood of adrenaline and a life-time's worth of combat and skill training kicked in instantly as the military man avoided the wild actions of the other. Clearly something was wrong here, Zechs only wished he knew what, and impassively decided force was going to be necessary unless he wished to retreat. "Retreat" was not in his vocabulary ( ... )

His punches were not as mindless as one would think, but clumsy and uncoordinated. He saw Zechs zip out of his periferal vision behind him, and responded with a yelp and an attempt to move out of the way. Much to his dismay, his right arm, then his wrist was pinned, then his other arm there after. He thrashed trying to get some kind of foothold, struggling to attempt to flee, after that his fight was pretty much being sucked right out of him. "NO! Help!" he shouted, his voice dry and crackly.

Zechs' attempts to sooth him was distorted by the fear really only made matters worse. The trashing, shouting, fear induced youth was doing anything he could to free himself.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you want Duo to escape. For your other thread. Or something. six_wind August 18 2009, 03:02:10 UTC
Zechs frowned and gazed down at the youth as best he could from his positioning. This wasn't getting any better and eventually he'd get tired of it all. With that in mind he tried a new tactic: being authoritative.

"Stop it! Enough!" He didn't yell or raise his voice, but rather the force behind it was simply stronger. "There is no danger here. I am not here to hurt you. I want to help. What is it that you're afraid of? What are you trying to escape?"

These two threads are unrelated, actually. We don't have to end it now. spaceflyboy August 18 2009, 03:08:26 UTC
Now the boy was just shivering and flinching, convulsing even. "H-Help..." He whimpered under choked breath and clenched teeth. All the thrashing, the fighting, it was getting him nowhere. His eyes were wide and breath shallow, like a child hiding from militant storm troopers raiding their house in the middle of the night.
