Since his adventure in New Metropolis and Salvage of what Imperiex left of his mainframe, Computo, he had hardly left his laboratory/quarters, in his bid to repair the damaged unit. The only reason he had to leave the room was to render parts from the replicator or dismantle appliances. What he needed now was a suitable power source ( ... )

Erek hadn't quite decided how he was going to handle things if he actually found anyone down here. And it looked like he was out of time to deliberate on that, he noticed.

Curious about whoever this was - and hopeful that he'd just found an explanation or two - the Chee hurried towards him, only slowing down as he drew close. Definitely an unfamiliar species to go with the unfamiliar technology. This looked promising.

"Hello," he said, polite but wary. "I'm guessing you're part of the crew here?"

"Only if you consider the people her a functioning unit. We hadn't had the chance to accommodate leadership or any organization what so ever." And Brainy would presume that the most diplomatic thing to do was to suggest to the group that they should elect a leader from group.

"My name is Brainiac 5." How interesting. This AI seemed almost human, and it knew 21st century English, anyway. "My instruments are indicating you're using holographic technology, and you're speaking 21st century American English- I wasn't aware artificial intelligence was that advanced in that era."

"Mine's Erek," he said, startled at being analysed so fast. So much for disguise - this guy had seen right through his cover. He shifted on his feet a little, taking a closer look with his own sensors. "That depends on where you look for it. My creators were a race called Pemalites: my people and I just... happen to live among humans."

He paused, hologram wearing a blank look for a moment as he considered deactivating it. "You don't match any species I've heard of, either."

"These Pemelites live among humans as well? The history files make no mention of them, you must have incorporated yourself flawlessly into their society." Brainy replied. "Not an easy task considering the nature of anchient humanoids."

He shook his head at the Chee's next comment, "My people, the Coluans. I doubt you'd have heard of them. They're not known for socializing among other races."

Erek shook his head, expression sober. "The Pemalites... became extinct around the time we came to Earth. We Chee have been able to disguise ourselves as humans since then, with a little holographic ingenuity."

He checked his data banks and had to concur with Brainy. "You're right, no Coluans on our records. Well, until now."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Chances are, these...Chee, were from another dimension entirely. He considered Erek, and his regular form, then his holographic identity. Advanced personalities, AI, this robot android was both sentient and self aware.

"Impressive. If that's the case, I'd like to take a look at the technology, with your permission of course."

He hesitated at that. His people were a long way from the Andalites when it came to jealously guarding technology. But still, it called for some consideration.

"I'd be happy to give it," he said after a second, with a nod. "Though I'd like to find out some more about this place first."

"Appreciate it." Replied the Coluan as he began to press a few buttons on his wrist. He imagined the Chee cloaking technology to be comparable to the tech in the 31st century. If he could make any use out of it, it would probably have to surpass what he already had.

In an effort to test that, he opened up a hologram recording of the orientation program from the main room and it flashed to life from his palm. "You've already seen this presentation, right? There's not much more to tell you about life on the ring, but there are dangers. Things the computer didn't tell you. Like for instance, I'm certain the computer didn't offer to mention that New York is directly above our heads, correct?"

Erek shook his head, eyebrows raised. "I saw the presentation, but... no. It didn't mention that. The whole city is sitting up there? How is that possible?"

"Given the level of teleportation technology, I believe the computer simply produces these people and places by reconstituting matter. It's possible that this place has read our minds in search of people and places that we hold dear to incorporate into the ring." Brainiac referred mainly to the fear factory that had done the same thing, but instead used holograms.

"The replication devices are a new one, though."

“That implies a pretty incredible amount of power. Not even we ever constructed something on this scale…” He frowned, a little uneasy at the thought that anyone - even a computer - might have been reading his mind. “Replication devices?

[ooc: Sorry, I had alot of work days this last week.]

"I've had and heard more then a few theories on the subject. I'm still uncertain as to what sort of programming or what kind of power source is used. I'm a 12th level intellect. I'll find it eventually." Brainy replied squarely. "As for the replicators there are stations all around the complex. They are capable of creating items or food from matter. I've found, however, that they do not operate efficiently at all times, nor do they seem capable of materializing rare elements, such as Nth Metal."

Brainy's utter confidence brought a half-smile to Erek's face. It reminded him of other species he'd known - although Brainy did have more justification than most. "If they're faulty, that would fit with the complex having been abandoned for a while. Still, if they work for regular supplies that's one major problem down. Unless 'Nth Metal' is critical for you...?"

I have a feeling they're gonna be chumly. brainiac5ive July 21 2009, 19:52:58 UTC
"Nth Metal would be convenient, but unnecessary. It's merely a element I use often in my experiments for it's super conductivity and it's capability to invert Mesons and gravitons." Brainy acknowledged Erek's theory regarding the abandoning, "I believe it's possible that the computer onvboard this complex was programmed with a mechanism to protect or serve it's crew. With no crew, it's AI must have malfunctioned."

This could be the start of something positively... sciencey. pemalite_stray July 21 2009, 21:52:51 UTC
"Understandable," Erek said quietly. Of all the reasons to malfunction, that one he could sympathise with. "You think that could be why it 'phased' us in, as well? Maybe it's even trying to replace its crew..."

OK, that wasn't a completely reassuring idea. He could think of a few ways that could go badly for them.
