Wow, I didn't even watch and it sucked....
So the Grammys were tonight, and I did not watch a second. As much as I love music, I had nobody to root for a win really, cause I haven't listened to the radio for music in nearly a year. So while I congradulate Kanye West on his obvious wins, he didn't deserve them. Not that he wasn't the best in his respective categories (though Common should have taken at least one), but in the case of both, the songs nominated were the absolute WORST songs on their albums. I usually skip "Testify" on Be, and "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" is just an insult to Shirley Bassey. Most of their best music is either not heard or even released.
And how odd is it that U2, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Bruce Springstein end up competing for all the top honors? I love that Q-Tip and De La Soul both won tonight (albeit in strange ways), but it just shows that the mainstream music community is just going in one big circle, with no hope of forseeable escape. It's sad, and I feel like I'll never make it back to respecting the radio again.
