So I've decided on a new method to try and fix Kirihara's fin rot. My general strategy involves soaking and scrubbing in water as hot as I can stand (Note: Dishwashing detergent never fully goes away and the residue can be dangerous to Bettas), and a lot of obsessive drying. Well, this clearly isn't helping (Although isn't necessarily hurting, either) so I decided to try a new method: Water as hot as my sink is capable of producing and "green" dishwashing detergent.
Now, some of you know that I use coordinating gravel in my divided fish tank. For the few of you who don't, here it is:
Pretty cool, huh? Yeah, not when you're cleaning it.
It sure is fun to scoop out all the gravel, mostly by hand, into two bowls and then pick out piece by piece any color that doesn't belong. Dumping it would be a waste, so... Yeah. That was enjoyable.
So after scrubbing everything down, separating gravel, cleaning gravel (Even more fun than it sounds), dashing through the windows on Atobe's castle with a pipe cleaner, and other general cleanery, the boys are back in, my hands hurt like a bitch, and Kirihara is on his THIRD round of meds. Oh joy. I really hope it actually takes this time. I love that little guy so much.
On a partially related note, Atobe has gotten so used to tank cleanings that he actually swam into the cup today. Good fish. You get brine shrimp.
I so need to buy Kirihara a new tank ornament.....
