Valkyrie. Go see it. No, seriously. GO SEE IT.
The wonderful and dear
quigonejinn was here for Christmas. And so, fulfilling a year-long dream, we went to see Valkyrie together the day after Christmas. We both went in with low expectations. Not only were neither of us fans of Tom Cruise, but we were worried about how historically accurate it would be.
We both walked out of the theater very pleasantly surprised. I mean, I'm already planning my second viewing. The director really used all the actors well, especially Tom Cruise. He really wasn't annoying in that HAI I'M TOM CRUISE ON UR SKREEN way at all. The cinematography was gorgeous and the director really made good use of martial and Third Reich images (I mean, black, red, and white flags DO look really impressive on film).
The thing that I was most happy about is that the movie is very true to history. It's such a wonderful true story that it needs no embellishment at all and so I was happy to see that director Singer didn't see the need to exaggerate or falsify things. There were only a few things that I nitpicked as being "not quite" right. But for Hollywood, this is damn good.
So, GO SEE IT NOW, DAMNIT. Go with an open mind. Or at least go for the great history lesson.
INCENTIVE: There is high slash-ability in this movie.
quigonejinn and I are pondering the formation of a fandom. YOU WILL WANT TO BE IN THE KNOW.
