I love my job! I love my principal, I love my AP, I love the woman who will be teaching geometry with me during second block, I love having my own classroom! My mentor is pretty nice, too. Of course she doesn't quite understand how to make a newcomer feel welcome, but she's trying. Class starts in a week, and she's giving me whatever help I ask for and trying to think of everything possible to tell me. She's also very good at giving me some of the local skinny. Turns out that the teacher whom I'm replacing left under a cloud, so anything I do will probably be an improvement. Fortunately, the principal seems to have faith in me. That is really lovely!

Stupid Lawrence just escaped AGAIN. Ugh.

Because I'm using this as a garden journal, here are some notes.
Sunflowers attract bees. We like this. Plant more next year. But make them shorter than the monster sunflowers, because those are too tall for me to enjoy.
Keep the area around cantaloupes, cucumber, and pumpkin sort of weeded. If you don't, they will all grow up all of a sudden, and the vines will not thrive. Well, okay, pumpkins will do well, because they always do, but they'll do better if they have a clear field.
Cage tomatoes well. No, really well. I mean it. Okay, so this coming year they won't be within reach of a tree that will fall over on them, but they still grow like mad. And next year, grow more standard tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes are nice, but not if that's all we have.
No peppers next year. Well, maybe a few. Not twelve like this year. Not worth it.
Put bird mesh over the blackberries if you want to eat any. Ditto for the strawberries. I think.
