Well, you were all going to get to see how swank I looked for Mom's office Christmas party, but my camera seems to be malfuntioning (ie not turning on), so it looks like there won't be anything like that until I manage to get it fixed. The plus side of that is that most likely means my neck will be finished by the time I get more pics.
The party was a blast. Mainly because I got to hang out with Mom, my aunt Belinda, and her beau Michael. And it could also have to do with the fact that I rocked out a couple songs on karaoke. I was actually the first person to sing, and picked Pinch Me by Barenaked Ladies since the selection wasn't huge. It was far from my best performance, but it was fun and everyone clapped and it seemed like only half of them were just being polite. Later on, though, I decided to do Turn the Page by Bob Segar (in large part because when I asked mom what she thought, she said I couldn't do it) and got cut off in the middle of the song. Turns out the DJ had just started doing karaoke and didn't realize he couldn't queue up a second song. So he apologized, let someone else do a song, and then had me try again. So I did, and I rocked faces off. That's such a great feeling.
In house news, I made some headway on the attic tonight. It's still got a ways to go before it's ready to partially move up, but it's mostly just sorting through shit. The bedroom should go a lot quicker now, and then it's just a matter of patching and painting and we're set. The main room will be a LOT more work, but it'll also be badass, so it's worth it. Here's hoping this turns out better than the basement.
In health news, I've decided that I need to get back into shape. While I'm not in horrible condition as it is, my belly is a little bigger than I'd like, my body fat is a little higher than I'd like, and my muscle mass isn't what it has been in the past. So starting tomorrow when I get home from taking Renee to work, I'm starting a workout regimen. I'm also going to change the way I eat, having healthier lunches and dinners when possible, and drinking less soda. Strangely enough, I'm really looking forward to it. The only thing I'm really worried about is my foot. It turns out I have a condition called Morton's Neuroma, which is basically where the nerves in your foot get inflamed and form something resembling a cyst. The result of this is intense pain when you put pressure on your foot the wrong way. It's been there for a while, but in the past it's just flared up occasionally and then gone away, whereas now it's pretty much constant. To the point that if I know I'm going to do any real walking, I bring a cane, and if we're going grocery shopping, I have to get one of the little wheelchairs with a basket. I'm hoping that the Gazelle will let me do cardio without my foot hurting, since the whole reason I got it was because the no-impact made it possible for me to do cardio without my knees killing me the next day. If not...well, I don't know what the hell I'm going to do.
In related news, I'm working on ideas for a custom cane. I'm thinking with a combination of carving and super sculpy, I might be able to pull off a decently cool idea I have. Well, I have a couple,. but one's relatively simple, while the other is insanely intricate. Since I have no clue if I can even pull off the easy one, I figure it'll be best to start there. I'm also thinking about picking up a shillelagh come Irish Fest next year, since they're basically walking sticks with a big, heavy end. The fact that I'm Irish and they look badass doesn't hurt, either.
Well, that's about it for now, boils and ghouls. I may as well end with a shameless plug, though, so remember, www.firstgiving.com/phantom and every little bit helps (seriously, anything).
