Wow, the last "Read Recently" I did was back in August! Gotta get back to getting caught up, eh?
The Curious World of Drugs and their Friends: a very trippy miscellany by Ingo Niermann and Adriano Sack
"Miscellany" doesn't begin to describe this book. For example, one page has "Animals on LSD"; a list of the effects of acid on such creatures as cats, mice, spiders, hornets . . . but not dogs. Below this is a list of cutting agents for Hashish, or what you were told was hash. The facing page has "Places made famous by drugs", such as Tijuana. Yes, I will read anything.
Not really recommended. I mean, I don't really see the point, you know?
Jesus, Interrupted: revealing the hidden contradictions in the Bible (and why we dont know about them) by Bart D. Ehrman
Ehrman continues his work of looking at the Gospels and Letters which make up the New Testament. This time he looks at the "Historical-critical" method of biblical scholarship; what it is, how it works, what it can tell us. He devotes a chapter to looking at the historical Jesus, in particular what we can know about him and how.
As usual, well written, thoughtful, and though-provoking. Recommended.
This Land is YourTheir Land: reports from a divided nation by Barbara Ehrenreich
Ya know, Ehrenreich can be kinda depressing at times. As before, she's looking at class warfare. Short version: we're losing. The rich are winning. This is not news, but Ehrenreich writes well and often amusingly. Oh, and this is all short pieces, so you don't have to take all the bad news at once. Recommended.
