In Defense of Atheism: the case against Christianity, Judaism and Islam by Michael Onfray
If you believe the hype on the back of the book, this is the most important atheist philosphical work since Neitzsche--the comparison is made explicitly. On the other hand, it's Penguin, and they get like that sometimes.
While Onfray begins with a section labelled "Atheology", it's rather more of a history of atheism than a philosophy of same. The rest of the book is exactly what the subtitle promises: an attempt to present a logical argument against the three major monotheisms. Does he succeed? Well, he convinced me. But then, I was willing to be convinced. I doubt if Onfray has anything that will reach the strong believers . . . but then, I don't think anyone has anything that could. Still, it's an interesting, thought-provoking read, and it's nice to read an attack on Islam that doesn't read like it's based on racism.
