It's been one of those weeks already.
I had been warned, via saturday's supervisor's report, that they'd had trouble with the fire alarms on saturday. Trouble in the form of the alarm going off. Many times. I was therefore ready for it to go off. Mind you, I had a migraine, so "ready" is not the same thing as able to deal with. We had to herd everybody out of the building while we waited for the problem to fix itself or for the fire department to show up. Problem solved itself.
Today my boss sends out an email to tell us that the problem is caused by low water pressure in the sprinklers. Water is being re-routed. Ah, think I, problem solved. Right?
6:45. I'm finishing my dinner. Almost. Then--did I mention that they weren't happy with a simple bell ringing noise, but put in loud sirens?--loud sirens go off. I have to go out and direct sending everybody out of the building again. Everybody wants to know how long this is going to take. Not a drill, I point out. Most people are polite about it. Everyone goes. My dinner gets cold, except for the cold parts, which heat up. This is entropy at work. Seven o'clock, the alarm stops and we let people back in. Half an hour more, and we could have shut down early (we closed at 8).
What makes the whole thing ironic is that they'll be testing the fire alarms this week.
