story time
been working on the book -- not writing new stuff but taking out some of the fox -- if the entire class felt it went on too long, then maybe it did -- anyway, the unconscious is a wonder -- i saw something i had done totally unconsciously --
throughout, i have the animals (and the prince) telling stories to each other -- the scorpion and the frog, the bremen town musicians, the wolf and the stork, etc.
and when the composer is being tortured to give up a name, he does not want to betray any living person, so he gives them the name of ivan ilych, "Tolstoy's bureaucrat, whose life was pointless but was transfigured by death."
anyway, i knew from the fables in the fox section that i was writing meta-fiction -- fiction about fiction -- but i did not know that idea had worked its way into the composer part.
whether or not this book ever sees the light of day and other eyes, it does have some wonderful things it. i just have to take out the stuff that bogs some people down.
and i have to finish it -- sigh --
